Dear Mom and Dad,

I'm still here in battalion firebase at Dak To, pulling perimeter security. The people are getting real lax and lazy here, so I am really hard pressed to keep them alert and busy in a constructive manner. I have to keep a constant check on everything and have to get tough quite a bit. I don't remember if I mailed that last letter or not, but if I didn't I just got my 1st LT. silver bar. My orders go back to 7 Sept., but they waited till "bullet", the battalion commander, could get here to pin my bars on personally. He had a photographer with him, so I guess I'll get my picture sent home to the papers.

Things are quiet up here for now. They expect 122mm rockets to hit us soon, but we have our bunkers built real solid, so we could take anything except a direct hit with no sweat. They are so inaccurate that they usually miss the entire perimeter, so we really aren't worried too, much. These rocket attacks are getting to be a joke.

Next month my pay check should go straight to the bank, so when it does let me know right away. Bye for now,

Love,
Homer
