arc light - code name for B-52 bomber strikes. These aircraft carried 108 bombs from 500 to 750lbs each, sometimes even carrying 2000 pound bombs. The aircraft worked in cells of three, that's over 300 bombs total. The bombs left 50 foot holes in the ground The explosions would cause the ground under your feet to move up and down like an earthquake and could be felt up to ten miles away. It sounded like distant thunder. Many enemy soldiers were killed by the concussion alone. It was know as "Whispering Death" because the planes flew at altitudes of 30,000 feet and you would not know they were even there until the first bomb exploded.
