Dear Mom and Dad,

I found out why I haven't made 1st yet. "Bullet", the battalion commander, came down and pinned my silver bar on personally. My orders were cut on 7 SEPT., but they wanted till he could be here. I imagine the paper will get a photo, cause they had a public information officer there. I'm real busy when I am busy here, but I also have a lot of dead time. For instance, from 1300-1650 things are slack, but from 1650 to 2400 or 2430, things really keep alive. Also I work hard from 0600 to 1200. At night guard check and in the morning details. I get all kinds of reports of enemy movement at night and I have to check it all out. In the morning I have to keep them busy improving bunkers etc.

It's almost too dark, so bye for now.

Love,

Homer
